Content is King: the use of images on corporate social media

More and more companies use corporate accounts on social media such as Facebook and Pinterest to profile themselves. 

A corporate account can significantly strengthen the image of a company and the way a brand is experienced, but posting and reposting messages comes with legal pitfalls. In the latest edition of the Dutch Magazine on Internet Law (‘Tijdschrift voor Internetrecht’), Considerati broadly explores the risks of ‘filling’ a corporate social media account. We address the applicable law, contractual possibilities and limitations and the possibilities of (re)using images in terms of copyright. We limit our analysis to Facebook and Pinterest, but the conclusions drawn could also be applied to other popular social media sites such as Tumblr or Twitter.
