Protecting and supporting cyber activists

Essay on the value of internet freedom to the freedom of expression of journalists in closed societies. This comprehesive study reveils how governments, NGOs and businesses each have their opportunities and, perhaps, responsibilities to support or protect online activists. The study is conducted for the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in preparation of a high level conference on internet freedom. During this conference, the Dutch foreign minister, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Foreign Minister Carl Bild of Sweden and several other high level representatives established commitment to supporting internet freedom by adopting a multi-stakeholder approach toward internet governance that includes governments, NGO’s and the corporate world.
