Global Corporate Responsibility for Internet Freedom

Essay on the role of multinational corporations in Internet governance. This background paper balances legitimate commercial interests with moral issues of corporate social responsibility in the field of Internet business and information technology. The study is conducted for the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in preparation of a high level conference on internet freedom. During this conference, the Dutch foreign minister, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Foreign Minister Carl Bild of Sweden and several other high level representatives established commitment to supporting internet freedom by adopting a multi-stakeholder approach toward internet governance that includes governments, NGO’s and the corporate world.
